I used to live in a place where the only real things you could do for fun took place outside. Not until moving to the city four years ago did I begin to notice how materialistically the outdoors can be portrayed. I noticed it was not only inaccessible to loads of people, but it was seen as fancy, expensive, and cliquey, ultimately creating a space in which you feel uncomfortable. In reality, you don’t need any experience, money, or gear to go outside. Simply laying on the grass and soaking up the sun is super sweet and definitely counts as an outdoor adventure. Nature is a place of unlimited possibilities and is accepting of everyone!
Therefore, The Boonies magazine was created as a response to the inaccessibility of our current outdoor culture, which I saw being represented through polished and intimidating magazines. Featuring realistic and simplistic outdoor adventures, The Boonies, is a place for you to be your dirty, messy, unpolished self! Inclusive of everybody, especially the inexperienced, the broke and the dirty! No intimidation, no rules. Just fun and simple experiences!
